Juniper Hill School for PlaceBased Education, located in Alna is one of the first of its kind. It’s a school that connects children to themselves, to each other, and to their communities through studying both natural and human environments. The outdoors serves as the primary classroom and a springboard for a curriculum that synthesizes the best of 20th century progressive education, with a 21st century place-based approach.
Juniper Hill School was founded by Director Anne Stires in 2011, and currently serves 3- to 9-year-olds. They have been adding a grade each year, with plans to culminate in a pre-K to grade 8 school.
