King continues as Woolwich selectboard chairman
David King Sr. will continue as chairman of the Woolwich board of selectmen after his peers re-elected him to the position Monday night.
Woolwich voters returned King, 66, of Birchwood Road, to the board of selectmen for another three-year term in November. He’s served 20 years on the five-member board, the last 10 as its chairman. Dale Chadbourne was re-elected as the board’s vice chairman.
The first order of business for the new year was the opening of bids for the town’s former ambulance. Three bids were received on the 2003 Ford 450 diesel truck but all of them were rejected as too low. The highest offer was $1,022. Selectmen will try advertising the vehicle again, this time on Craig’s list.
Selectmen did sell a surplus 1999 Ford Crown Victoria automobile. Barry Moses of Kingston, N.H. submitted the higher of two bids at $332.
King said North East Mobil Health Services has agreed to continue providing ambulance services to Woolwich for another three years at no cost to the town. The new agreement “will pretty much be seamless,” said King, adding North East looks forward to continue working with Woolwich’s EMS personnel.
In his report to selectmen, Geoff McCarren, acting fire chief, noted the active roster of the Woolwich Fire Department had dropped from 30 to 20 members over the past year.
Selectmen reappointed Paul H. Dumdey, MD of Bath for another three-year term as the town’s health officer.
By unanimous vote the board readopted both its bylaws and disbursement warrant policy.
The board will convene for a special meeting next Monday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. to begin work on the town’s 2016-2017 budget.
At 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, selectmen will meet with the solid waste and recycling committee. The discussion will concern curbside trash and recycling pickup. Committee members have been reaching out to several area haulers. Selectmen hope to bid out the contract in March.
The Woolwich Historical Society will present Elwyn Rittall and “The Cat’s Tale – A Story of Two Brothers and a Rare 1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E” on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Patten Free Library, Bath, upstairs in the Community Room. This is a fascinating account concerning the acquisition and family history of a very special car.
It was noted the Woolwich town office will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
