Learn to be a leader at YMCA Camp Knickerbocker
At YMCA Camp Knickerbocker, our counselors and staff are “professional role models,” helping kids to develop core values, learn new skills, make new friends, have fun, and be safe in the process. We know how much of an impact summer camp can have on a child’s life, and for that reason, we are dedicated to developing leaders to guide campers through their best summer ever.
The YMCA is seeking energetic staff to round out our team for the upcoming summer. Available positions include Day Camp Counselors, Adventure Camp Counselors, Nurse, and Lifeguards. The summer season runs for 10 weeks beginning on June 19. Employment applications are available at the Boothbay Region YMCA and the CLC YMCA. For information regarding pay or scheduling, contact Emily Mirabile at emirabile@brymca.org.
To prepare the next generation of camp counselors and staff, the Boothbay Region YMCA and CLC YMCA are again offering teen leadership opportunities at YMCA Camp Knickerbocker this summer. The Leader-In-Training (CIT) program is for 13 year olds and the Counselor-In-Training (CIT), the second year of the teen leadership development program, is for 14 year olds.
Joe Clark, senior program director, says, “The program for CITs and LITs will not only help build leadership skills at Camp Knickerbocker, but also skills to help at home, school, and the community. The CIT and LIT students will have the opportunity to have hands on learning experiences that will help build the leaders of tomorrow.”
The LIT program for 13 year olds is the first of the two-year program and focuses on the individual’s leadership ability and style while creating an LIT team, teaching about community inclusion and fostering stewardship practices. Throughout the LIT program youth will engage in activities and discussion about types of leadership, communication styles and methods, service work, team-building, and other leadership skills while still participating in camp activities.
The LIT program is being offered in two four-week sessions, either June 26-July 21 or July 24-August 18. Interested students should contact Karen-Ann Hagar at khagar@clcymca.org to receive a recommendation to enroll in the LIT program. Scholarships and payment plans are available to ensure that all interested Leaders-In-Training can access the program regardless of their financial resources.
In the CIT program, 14 year olds will study teaching styles, delivery methods, communication techniques, and planning preparation. CITs must be strong, independent, and focused on helping make a better community for all. With this program they will gain valuable hands-on experience working with youth, leading programs and activities, and working with fellow staff in program conception, creation and execution.
The CIT program is also offered in two four-week sessions, either June 26-July 21 or July 24-August 18. Interested CIT candidates must schedule an interview with a Camp Director Joe Clark (jclark@clcymca.org) or Emily Mirabile (emirabile@brymca.org) before registering. There is no cost for the CIT program, but CITs must commit to a full four-week session.
The CLC YMCA is a key collaborative leader improving the quality of life for all by being the champion for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The vision of the Boothbay Region YMCA is to nurture the potential of youth, promote healthy living for all, and foster social responsibility.
