The last show of the season at Yvette Torres Fine Art features the artists associated with the gallery, reintroducing them to the public since the gallery’s move from Winter Street to its new space at 464 Main Street, Rockland.

An artist’ reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit includes the work of Lincoln County artists Nancy Freeman, Francis Grant, Frances Kidder, Diane Langley, George Mason and Winslow Myers. Other artists represented are Anne Ayvaliotis, Barbara Brady, Jim Condron, Sam Gelber, Arthur Cadieux, John Heliker and Robert LaHotan. 

Langley’s most recent oil paintings are inspired by her exploration into stillness. Mason’s work reveals his origins as a ceramic artist, his unique mixed media art now resembling textured, fantastic wall hangings. Freeman, who founded Round Top Center for the Arts and passed away recently, was a prolific painter and collagist of delicate and abstract works, both large and small. Music was a profound influence in her work. 

Grant’s soft pastel-palette oil paintings were greatly influenced by Maine coast light upon his moving here from New York. Kidder likes to paint the rocks and water of her Seal Cove summer home, trying to capture the dramatic transitions between the two elements. Myers paints large realistic canvases which juxtapose unexpected images — a plane and a meadow, for instance — that often reveal an ecological message.
