From 1909 to 1947, photographers traveled across Maine in Model Ts shooting scenes of small towns and rural life. They worked for Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company in Belfast, Maine, making postcards during the craze at the turn of the 20th century when an estimated 200 to 300 billion postcards were produced and mailed world-wide. But the photographers for Eastern Illustrated shot scenes which had often been overlooked by larger postcard companies, and they created a highly personal and intimate portrait of our state. The historic images these photographers took of Lincoln County will be on exhibit in Lincoln County Through Eastern's Eye at Boothbay Railway Village from Saturday, May 27 through Thursday, June 29. Starting on Saturday, May 27, Boothbay Railway Village will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through October 15. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $6 children 3 to 18, free for Museum members and children under 3.

Penobscot Marine Museum photo archivist Kevin Johnson will share additional photos of Lincoln County in a talk about Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company on Tuesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Boothbay Railway Village. Admission to the talk is free with a suggested $5 donation.

Lincoln County Through Eastern's Eye is on loan from Penobscot Marine Museum which has nearly 50,000 negatives taken by Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company.
