Loughridge jewelry at Kefauver Studio & Gallery
Sally Loughridge’s unique, handcrafted necklaces and earrings are offered at the Kefauver Studio & Gallery, Damariscotta. Loughridge has added a number of new styles, materials, and compositions in both her necklaces and earrings.
Loughridge has become a well-known Midcoast Maine artist. She moved to Maine permanently in 1999 and resides in South Bristol where she is constantly busy with her art.
“I now paint almost daily and think about art in virtually all my conscious hours,” said Loughridge.
She shows her oil and soft pastel paintings at the Pemaquid Art Gallery in New Harbor, the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, and the Mast Cove Galleries in Kennebunkport; as well as invitational shows in Midcoast Maine.
But despite painting frequently, whether in her studio or en plein air, Loughridge still had creativity and energy to spare. She turned to creating jewelry in the evening hours, often translating the colors and feelings from the painting she worked on all day into a piece of jewelry.
Working with beautiful materials, both elegant and primitive, Loughridge creates jewelry that echoes her response to nature. Among the materials she uses are jasper, agate, zinc coral, and Swarovski pearls.
“I create jewelry inspired by my resonance to a natural scene. Sometimes I have already created a painting in response to the same scene in nature. Sometimes I craft a necklace or earrings first, which I use later to remind me of the natural elements that excited me,” Loughridge said. “Designing the jewelry can actually help me simplify elements which I later may incorporate into a related painting.”
Loughridge’s necklaces and earrings are priced to suit every budget, and can be found at the Kefauver Studio & Gallery at 144 Bristol Road, Damariscotta. The gallery is open every day except Monday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
