Maine Marathon announces Veggies to Table as 2023 beneficiary
Bob Dunfey, the volunteer race director for The Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay, has announced that Veggies to Table is one of four Maine beneficiaries of this year’s event which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1. Veggies to Table will receive a $15,750 donation from the marathon.
“Veggies to Table is truly honored that Maine Marathon has chosen us, and our mission to help end hunger in Maine, as one of their 2023 grantees. We could not be more pleased. The more people who learn about food insecurity, and just how many people go hungry daily in our state, the better placed we will be to help,” said Erica Berman, executive director, Veggies to Table
Veggies to Table located in Newcastle is a grow-to-donate farm that grows top-quality organic produce and flowers to donate to local folks experiencing hunger and needing joy. They create lasting community connections through its volunteer program and provide education around healthy food. The organization brings normalcy and restores dignity to individuals and families who have lost control over the most basic of choices and decisions – what to eat. Its goal is to provide universal access to nutritious and culturally appropriate food for everyone.
The Maine Marathon, organized by the Maine Track Club, is a volunteer driven, nonprofit event with proceeds going to local Maine charities. Since 1997, have raised over $6.3 million to charity. Over 50 volunteer race coordinators plan the event during the year and about 900 volunteers deliver the event on race weekend.
The three other chosen non-profits are the Ecology School, Maine Children’s Cancer Center, YMCA camp of Maine.
