Martin released from contract with Wiscasset Ambulance Service
Toby Martin of the Wiscasset Ambulance Service said he received word at 6 a.m. June 28, the town was opting out of his contract, as part of a clause that allows both sides to mutually end a contract before the end of its term.
Martin said he has yet to sign the opt-out clause of the contract, but was already asked to remove his belongings and turn in his keys. “It’s no surprise,” he said. “They’ve been leaning toward going with a contract with CLC Ambulance. I think they were unhappy that I provided information to the press about the issue with CLC two years ago.”
He was referring to comments and documents he provided about a death that occurred after CLC did not take a Wiscasset patient to the hospital of her choice.
However, he said Thursday, the town did not specify a reason for the dismissal. Martin said he would have his lawyer look over the document before he signs it. The severance agreement includes three months’ salary and three months of health care insurance and other benefits. In exchange, Martin would have to sign the agreement and agree to a waiver of claims.
Marian Anderson is out of the office until July 9 and was unavailable for comment.
Martin has been director of Wiscasset Ambulance Service since 2016.
