Midcoast Maine Community Action kicks off Diaper Drive to benefit United Way
Due to the United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s (UWMCM) urgent need for diapers and baby wipes, Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) is hosting a diaper drive now through Monday, Nov. 6 to benefit the UWMCM’s Diaper Project. This project, started in 2014 to help ease the financial burden of costly diapers and wipes on families, provides these early childhood essentials to daycares, hospitals, and social service organizations all over the Midcoast region to be given to families free of charge.
According to the National Diaper Bank Network’s 2023 “Diaper Check” survey, almost half of families with young children in the US reported experiencing diaper need. Diaper need is defined as “the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby clean, dry and healthy.” Last year, MMCA gave out over half a million diapers from its Bath central office.
Drop boxes for the diaper drive are located at MMCA’s central office at 34 Wing Farm Parkway in Bath, Bath Fire and Rescue, Topsham Fire and Rescue, Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, and Brackett’s Market. Diapers in sizes 4, 5, and 6 are most needed. Diapers and wipes can also be donated through MMCA's Amazon Wishlist; the link can be found on the agency's Facebook page.
