Mold update, new hires planned
The Wiscasset School Committee on Aug. 27 will hear an update on work to address mold found earlier this year at Wiscasset Middle School. The school, now Wiscasset Elementary School, opens Aug. 31.
The committee was set to meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the library at Wiscasset Middle High School on Gardiner Road.
An April 22 report by Air Quality Management Services in Lewiston recommended getting a mold remediation contractor and consulting with an engineer to determine how to stop a possible intrusion of groundwater.
As with earlier tests the state did at the school department’s request, the April findings did not warrant any classes being moved, then-Interim Principal Bruce Scally said.
An update on the elementary school playground was also planned Thursday, along with making Lisa Henry a half-time social worker for grades seven through 12 and Joanne Krejsa a part-time nurse at Wiscasset Middle High.
New hires that do not need a committee vote include Wiscasset Middle High life skills educational technician Jeanne Hovance; cross-country coach Eva Castor; kitchen staff members Lori Munson and Jesse Morong; and pre-kindergarten educational technician Drew Porter.
The committee was set to take up resignations from gifted-and-talented teacher Michael Giampetruzzi, educational technician Jane Goulet, cross-country coach Warren Cossette and food service staff member Sherre Faulkingham.
