New door for Chapman-Hall House
Built by Nathaniel Chapman in 1754, the Chapman-Hall House has weathered many suns and many storms. On May 17, the house's front door was replaced with a replica of the deteriorated version (part of an earlier restoration) built by Darryn Petersen Restoration Carpentry. Finishing touches will include an oil finish, as exterior doors often went unpainted during the early time period of the house.
The Chapman-Hall House is a good example of one style of early architecture used in the Midcoast area. The furnishings on exhibit cover the time frame of the mid-18th century into the early 19th century.
The house is being readied for school field trips and opening weekend slated for June 11 and 12. The summer season will be kicked off with a special event titled “Three Traditions.” Native American, Settler/Militiaman, and Coastal Navigating, all based in the Colonial time period, will be presented both days.
For the first time, a children’s summer program, “Summer with the Past,” is being offered the week of June 20 -24. A brochure and registration form can be found on the Lincoln County Historical Association website, or by connecting LCHA at P.O. Box 61, Wiscasset, ME 04578.
