Nobleboro man allegedly struck by telephone, arrested
A Nobleboro man who allegedly choked a woman has been arrested on felony assault charges.
Herbert “Joe” Sund III of Parsonfield and Nobleboro was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after an alleged drunken fight ended with a choke-hold and a telephone used as a weapon.
According to Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Seekins's arrest report, the alleged incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. April 17 in Nobleboro. Seekins responded to a reported disturbance on Upper East Pond Road in Nobleboro.
When he spoke with the victim, who knew Sund, she reportedly said he had attacked her. The victim reported that Sund allegedly choked her until she almost passed out. She was allegedly able to escape by striking Sund in the forehead with a cordless telephone then running to the neighbors.
Sund allegedly said that he was the one who was attacked, and that he tried to pin the victim's arms to get her to stop striking him with the phone.
Seekins made a note in his report that both Sund and the victim had been drinking and that Sund had a previous arrest in the early 2000s for criminal threatening.
Sund was arrested and charged with Class B aggravated assault.
Sund was ordered to have no contact with the victim, and to refrain from using drugs or alcohol or possessing dangerous weapons. He was held and released at Two Bridges Regional Jail on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to have a June 22 disposition hearing.
If convicted, Sund could face prison time: the maximum penalty for Class B crimes is 10 years in prison with up to $20,000 in fines.
