OBD Vintage Car Show names/dedicates annual show posthumously
OBD 2021 Vintage Car Show organizers announced that the annual event that showcases collectible automobiles, trucks and motorcycles will be named for two longtime supporters who passed away since the last show in 2019.
“The late Bob Williams of New Harbor and Gordon Fossett of Round Pond were with the show since its inception in 2013, offering support and kind words every year, good weather or not,” said Jeff Friedman from the car show staff.
Beginning this year, the popular event, being held at the Bristol Consolidated School in Bristol this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a rain-date just announced for the next day, Sunday, Aug. 15 at the same time, is called the ‘OBD Williams-Fossett Vintage Car Show’ commencing on show day and moving forward. “The families of both late community members will be there with vehicles,” continued Friedman, “and both will receive commemorative plaques at 1:00 p.m. dedicating the show to their loved-ones who are no longer with us.”
Robert “Bob” Williams of New Harbor was born in Rockland and grew-up in Thomaston. Bob attended local schools and went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.
Bob’s first true love (other than his wife, Dianne) was automobiles. He found time every night and on weekends to be around his true passions, cars and family. After completion of a project, he was known for his famous hair-raising test drives after engine repairs and auto fine-tuning. (this author can report such a ride in a rare Porsche racing car just months before Bob’s passing…and yes, it was hair-raising).
His wonderful collection continues to be lovingly cared for by his family.
Gordon Fossett grew up in Round Pond at Sheep Huddle, the family home. A man of integrity, he was humble and kind. He had appreciation for preserving history, people and the simple things in life.
Gordon was happiest outdoors in warm weather in the fields on his tractor, or when he was working-on, or enjoying rides in parades or around the village in his antique cars.
In 2018, Gordon’s beloved Model A was stolen. Folks who knew him could see a tear in his eye. Diligence by the authorities resulted in recovery of the car. He set out on a road trip with his best friend, Edward Fossett to bring his car home. Getting the car back restored, Gordon’s gentle smile returned along with his lost faith in humanity.
“It’s a fun time for exhibitors and families alike, with almost 40 vehicles currently registered,” said Friedman. ‘DJ Jeffro’ will be spinning the vintage tunes everyone wants to hear from the 1920s-1960s, kids get to vote for the vehicle they like best for a special trophy and family luncheon options the ‘Contented Sole’ and ‘Harbor Room’ are nearby. Both offer outside and inside dining service.
