OBD Williams-Fossett Vintage Car Show winners crowned
It was a whale of a day for the 2021 OBD Williams-Fossett Vintage Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Bristol Consolidated School in Bristol. Some 50 vintage vehicles from Lincoln County and beyond arrived on an extremely hot, but thankfully dry day.
As announced, the annual vintage show was dedicated to, and named for two fine gentlemen who passed away since the last show in 2019. (2020 didn’t happen due to Covid concerns) Both were big supporters of the community effort since its inception in 2013 and instrumental to the event’s growth and success. The families of the late Bob Williams of New Harbor and Gordon Fossett of Round Pond were on-hand to receive honors and plaques from event organizers. They also brought awesome antique vehicles for all to enjoy.
After stalwart vintage car show staff tabulated the substantial number of votes, and who’s work on a broiling day is more than recognized and appreciated, show organizers are pleased to announce the six 2021 trophy recipients:
- First Place: 1930 Ford Woody, owned by The Williams family of New Harbor.
- Second Place: 1969 Camero, owned by David Brenner of Nobleboro.
- Third Place: 1930 Model A Ford, owned by John C. Harris of South Bristol.
- Kid’s Pick: (chosen by children twelve and under) 1959 Dart Kart, owned by Douglas Ruhton of Bristol.
- Staff Choice: 1969 Chevrolet Truck owned by Jared Pendleton of New Harbor. (outfitted with a vintage snowmobile on the bed and snow plow on a ninety-degree-plus show day)
- Outstanding Motorcycle: 1946 Indian Chief with Sidecar, owned by Dale Best of Bristol.
The 2021 OBD Williams-Fossett Vintage Car Show wishes to offer very special thanks to the Bristol Consolidated School leadership and staff for their positive, community-spirited welcome for the event. Longtime vintage show registrants, who well-remembered the challenges of previous shows, expressed thanks for, and positive feelings about the Consolidated School and its staff members.
It was an immediate “yes” from school principal Jennifer Ribeiro when approached about holding the show in the beautifully paved school parking lot. Then, her talented staff took over to ensure a successful outcome, including on-site custodian Ralph Bryant, head custodian Godo Arzate and office staffer Melissa Shaw.
Special thanks also goes to John C. Harris of South Bristol, a 2021 trophy recipient, who invited members of his automobile club, the Maine chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) to join the vintage show fun.
Lastly, the support and assistance from Bristol town manager, Christopher Hall and his staff added nicely to the mix that helped to ensure a positive outcome for all. Car show staff are already looking forward to next year’s vintage show and hope to continue its growth for the community.
