The Plummer Gallery open for its 53rd season
It seems like a short time has passed since Carlton, a young artist with great expectations, still in grad school going for his master of fine art in painting at Boston University, hung his shingle out at Ocean Point.
Carlton and his wife, Joan, a strong painter in her own right, had four boys at the time – the youngest just one year old. The couple met at the Vespe George School of Art in Boston and both became illustrators there. Carlton and Joan also became teachers during their professional careers – Carlton a full professor in painting at the University of Massachusetts and Joan an art teacher in Pelham, New Hampshire.
In 1981 the Plummers built their dream house at Boothbay Shores in East Boothbay at the mouth of the Damariscotta River.
The painting styles of the Plummers has changed over the course of their creative careers.
Joan's new florals are currently on display in the gallery.
Carlton has been his high stylized fantasy images in acrylics nationwide. He completed 25 new works over the winter that range from the impressionistic to fantasy.
Youngest son Gerry's granite sculptures have been installed throughout the Plummer's gardens.
The Plummer Gallery is located at 154 King Phillips Trail in East Boothbay. For more information, visit www.plummergallery.com/.
