Preschool science class explores the circulatory system
Learning about the human heart and circulatory system took preschoolers at Seeds of Knowledge Education Center in Wiscasset on an interactive journey through the human body. Each child became a blood cell for this role-playing activity. The classroom was the giant human body with an area in the room for the heart, lungs, brain, feet and hands.
To begin, the children traveled together from the imaginary heart to the lungs to pick up oxygen tags. They then carried the oxygen tags to the foot muscles where they dropped off the oxygen, so the muscles could work. They then picked up carbon dioxide/waste tags from the foot muscle and carried them back through the heart and to the lungs to get rid of the waste and to receive more oxygen tags. The children continued this journey to the other parts of the classroom human body and learned the importance of the circulatory system.
The preschool Seedling Explorers class at Seeds of Knowledge will begin a new five-week session for 3-5-year-olds on Friday, March 7 from 1:15 to 2 p.m. For more information, please visit www.seedsofknowledgeec.com or call 207-841-2704.
