Rebuilding Together-Lincoln County initiates a Ramps-for-All program
Rebuilding Together-Lincoln County (RT-LC) has initiated a Ramps-for-All program to assist Lincoln County residents who, because of permanent handicap or temporary disability, require ramp access to their homes. The program is free and, unlike RT-LC’s home repair services, is available without providing a financial needs assessment.
RT-LC is a nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to provide home repair services for local homeowners who can’t afford to do the repairs themselves.
They’ve installed dozens of ramps for low-income homeowners through the years, and in the past, ramps were typically built from wood. Because wood ramps are difficult to build and difficult to disassemble for removal and reuse, RT-LC began installing modular aluminum ramps in 2019 and now has 9 of these ramps in the field. Last month, RT-LC purchased enough additional aluminum components to erect as many as 6 more ramps, depending on their configurations.
“Ramps have been part of what we do for a very long time,” said RT-LC Vice President Jim Stevens who heads up the Ramps-for-All program. “In the past, though, our clients had to be low-income. Now, because the need is so great and these new aluminum ramps make meeting that need easier, we’re expanding our program to include folks of all incomes.”
The Ramps-for-All program is offered on a first come, first served basis and the ramps and attendant components remain the property of RT-LC. After an on-site assessment, one of RT-LC’s all-volunteer Gold Teams will install the ramp and remove it once it is no longer needed.
