Area residents are invited to attend a free screening of the documentary film "Searching For Home, Coming Back From War” on Sunday, November 13 at 1 p.m. in Academic Building, 29 Sewall Street on the Southern Maine Community College Midcoast Campus on Brunswick Landing. The screening is sponsored by University College at Bath/Brunswick, University of Maine at Augusta, Southern Maine Community College and the Mid-Coast Veterans Council.

“Searching for Home: Coming Back from War” explores, the challenging journeys of veterans returning home from war and their search for the “home” they left behind–physically, mentally and spiritually. The film is a multi-generational documentary that chronicles the journey from battlefield to home and the search for healing and hope. This emotional and unflinching look at returning veterans was created by Emmy Award winning filmmaker, Eric Christiansen and features the stories of several Maine veterans and their families.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. The panel will be moderated by Amy Line, University of Maine at Augusta, Coordinator of Veterans Affairs. The panel members include: Greg Vaillancourt, SPC, U.S. Army, Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran (2004-2005 Mosul North); Patricia Brown, Silver Star mother to Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran, Sgt. Brandon Deaton, Infantry, Automatic Rifleman/Fire Team Leader, U.S. Army, retired; and Sophy Maloney, widow of Patrick Maloney, AAOA (EOD), U. S. Navy. Patricia Brown and Sophy Maloney both participated in the filming of the documentary.

Veterans resource information will be provided. Scott Hutcherson, LPCP, ACS and Team Leader of the Lewiston Vet Center will be available during the film and panel discussion. The Mobile Vet Center will be there as well
