Seed swap in Waldoboro Jan. 25
Now's the time to choose those open-pollinated and heirloom seeds harvested this fall to bring to the Seed Swap. There will be envelopes for choosing and packaging seed. A volunteer will be available to help package and place seeds. One does not have to bring seeds to share.
The fifth annual Seed Swap & Saving Seeds Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Knox & Lincoln Counties Extension office, 377 Manktown Road in Waldoboro (snow day, Saturday, Feb. 1.). Master Gardener volunteer Jean Vose begins the workshop with a short slide show covering the history and reasons for saving seeds. Discussion and questions are welcomed during the presentation. The swap will begin at the conclusion of the slide show presentation.
Guidelines for swapping: Please do not bring seed collected from hybrid plants, as they won't grow true to type (and no GMO seed). Do bring perennial, annual or biennial seeds with growing instructions; ex. full sun, moist soil, shade, etc. Bring flower, herb or vegetable seeds.
This workshop is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea and light refreshments are served and one can bring a favorite item to share.
Contact Jean at 563-7564 or godslove@tidewater.net for more information.
