Selectmen approve liquor license for Water’s Edge
The Edgecomb selectmen granted a liquor license on Dec. 15 to the Water’s Edge Banquet and Function Facility. The board approved the request by a 2-0 vote following a public hearing.
The license allows Water’s Edge owner Tony Casella to serve alcohol on a limited basis. Casella is allowed to serve alcohol during all private functions, such as weddings, and for 15 holiday occasions, which are open to the public.
The hearing was unattended by the public.
Selectmen Jack Sarmanian and Jessica Chubbuck stated they had no problem with the request.
However, Chubbuck was curious about the facility being used as a restaurant. Casella said it would be difficult to operate the facility as both a restaurant and banquet hall. The facility is generally booked every weekend, according to Casella.
There are plans to open the facility for a Sunday brunch, and possibly on Thursdays for an Italian or seafood buffet.
“We’ve had a lot of requests to open as a restaurant. On Thanksgiving, we served 435 meals,” Casella said. “We’ve done very well, but for right now we’ll continue as a banquet facility.”
The selectmen will meet next at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 in the municipal room.
