Sen. Maxmin appointed to Substance Use Disorder Commission; selected as co-chair of Broadband Caucus
AUGUSTA — Sen. Chloe Maxmin, D-Nobleboro, has been appointed to the Substance Use Disorder Commission by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash. In addition, Sen. Maxmin will serve as co-chair of the Legislature’s Broadband Caucus.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to focus more intensely on these policy areas,” said Sen. Maxmin. “Access to treatment for substance use and internet connectivity are two issues that have an outsized impact on rural communities. In health care and internet access, rural communities have long been left behind. It’s time to invest in connecting people with the resources they need.”
The Substance Use Disorder Commission is responsible for evaluating policies related to substance use in Maine and for making policy recommendations on the subject. The Commission is also responsible for collecting and disseminating data and other information to the public. Sen. Maxmin is sponsoring a bill this session that would increase the number of substance use recovery centers in underserved parts of the state.
The Broadband Caucus is a group of Legislators focused on policy that brings reliable, high-speed internet to every corner of Maine. A number of bills this session seek to improve internet connectivity across the state, particularly in rural areas, and last year Maine voters approved a $15 million bond to invest in internet connectivity. Ensuring every Mainer who wants it has reliable internet in their home has been a priority for Sen. Maxmin during her time as a legislator.
