Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest,’ at the Lincoln Theater
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.”
Shakespeare’s classic, The Tempest, comes to the Lincoln Theater screen in Damariscotta, in a production captured live from Shakespeare’s home in Stratford-upon-Avon and The Royal Shakespeare Company on Wednesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, March 23 at 3 p.m.
On a distant island a man waits.
Robbed of his position, power and wealth, his enemies have left him in isolation. But this is no ordinary man, and this no ordinary island. Prospero is a magician, able to control the very elements and bend nature to his will. When a sail appears on the horizon, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm, he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up on the shore. When they wake, they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems.
The Tempest opened in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in November 2016. The Captured Live from Stratford-upon-Avon cinema broadcast offers audiences a unique chance to see this ground-breaking adaptation of Shakespeare’s magical play, in a unique partnership with Intel using today’s most advanced digital technology in a bold re-imagining of Shakespeare’s magical play, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Simon Russell Beale returns to the RSC after 20 years to play Prospero in a production directed by Artistic Director Gregory Doran. The performance runs 2 hours and 23 minutes. Tickets are $15 adult, $13 Theater members and $5 for youth (18 and under) and are available in advance or on the day of the broadcast starting one hour before the show.
