Shawna Gatto loses appeal in Kendall Chick, Wiscasset murder
Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday affirmed a lower court’s conviction of Shawna Gatto in the murder of Kendall Chick, 4, of Wiscasset in 2017.
The state’s ruling, available at courts.maine.gov, states in part: “Viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to the State, the record is sufficient to support the trial court’s conclusion that the State had proved all elements of depraved indifference murder beyond a reasonable doubt ... Furthermore, the trial court did not abuse its discretion in limiting Gatto’s cross-examination of” a medical examiner, it continues.
A judge last year sentenced Gatto to serve 50 years in prison, according to Wiscasset Newspaper files. Her appeal of the sentence was rejected last fall, a law court clerk said.
