Sheriff's report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
On August 18, Deputy Scott Hayden was dispatched to a report of a burglary/theft of some copper piping (value, $200) in the Alna area. This case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
On August 19, Lt. Michael Murphy was dispatched to a report of a burglary/theft in the Edgecomb area where numerous items were taken from a residence. Further investigation to follow.
On August 20, Deputy Amber Jeskey and Deputy Kevin Dennison were dispatched to a report of a burglary in the Edgecomb area. Numerous items were taken and the complainant is compiling a list of items stolen. Further investigation to follow.
Recent Summonses
On August 15, Brad E. Russell, 22, of Newcastle was issued a summons for criminal motor vehicle speeding, 30-plus miles per hour over the speed limit, on South Clary Road, Jefferson, by Deputy Brian Collamore.
On August 17, Thomas J. Chadwick, 18, of Alna was issued a summons for a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, on Atkins Road in Jefferson, by Deputy Scott Hayden.
Recent Arrests
On August 14, Philip M. Harrington, III, 25, of Wiscasset was arrested for violating condition of release, at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Wiscasset, by Det. Ronald Rollins.
On August 18, Matthew D. Smith, 21, of Wiscasset was arrested for operating under the influence – 1 prior; violating condition of release; failing to make oral or written accident report and operating while license is suspended or revoked – OUI, on Alna Road in Alna, by Deputy Amber Jeskey, who was assisted by Deputy Kevin Dennison.
On August 18, Raymond D. Fulkerson, 84, of Tempe, Ariz. was arrested for driving to endanger, on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay, by Sgt. Jason Nein.
Recent Accidents
On August 16, an accident occurred on River Road in Edgecomb involving Michael J. Cusumano, 31, of Boothbay Harbor. Mr. Cusumano was operating his 2004 Chevrolet 2500 northbound in heavy rain. As he rounded a corner near Merry Island Road, he began fishtailing. As a result, his vehicle crossed the center line, left the roadway, struck a rock and partially rolled over. Deputy Scott Hayden was the investigating officer.
On August 16, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Edgecomb involving Patricia A. Fredericks, 80, of Monmouth Beach, N.J. and Murk R. Wester, 72, of Newport, N.Y. Fredericks and Wester were both heading south on Route 1. Wester’s 1999 Ford F350 struck Fredericks’ 2009 Audi from behind when Fredericks slowed down in traffic. Wester was following too closely for the traffic conditions. Deputy Amber Jeskey was the investigating officer.
On August 17, an accident occurred on Hendricks Hill Road on Southport Island involving Weston D. Alley, 24, of Boothbay. Alley was operating his 2008 Ford F250 southbound near the Southport Bridge when he failed to see the gate crossing start to come down to stop traffic. As a result, he saw the gate too late and attempted to turn away, but his vehicle struck it and snapped the gate in half. Deputy Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.
On August 17, an accident occurred on Butler Road in Boothbay involving Tracy A. Swenson, 52, of Boothbay. Swenson was operating his 1999 Subaru Legacy northbound when he went onto the soft shoulder of the road. He was then unable to correct the vehicle’s path, resulting in the vehicle leaving the roadway and striking several trees before coming to rest. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
On August 18, an accident occurred on West Alna Road in Alna involving Matthew D. Smith, 21, of Wiscasset. Smith was operating his 1999 Ford when he lost control of his vehicle when the tie rod snapped. His vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on the left side embankment. Deputy Amber Jeskey was the investigating officer.
On August 19, an accident occurred on Route 27 in Boothbay involving Michelle L. Miller, 31, of Southport. Miller was operating her 2003 Nissan Murano southbound when she became distracted by a cellular phone and drove off the right side of the roadway. Her vehicle then traveled approximately 50 feet down an embankment, striking a sign and a culvert pipe before coming to rest against some rocks and small trees. Lt. Michael Murphy was the investigating officer.
