Sheriff's report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
On September 6, Deputy Chad Gilbert responded to a report of criminal trespass to the town office in Newcastle. It appears entry was made into the building, although nothing seems to be missing as of this report.
On September 8, Deputy Justin Drake responded to a report of a theft of two cast iron flower pots (value: $500.00) from a residence in the Alna area. The complainant stated the pots weighed approximately 60 pounds apiece and were likely stolen within the last few days. Investigation to follow as new leads develops.
On September 9, Deputy Kevin Dennison responded to a complaint of an attempted burglary in the Southport area. It appeared as if someone(s) tried to gain entry to a residence but was unsuccessful. Further investigation if leads develop.
Recent summons
On September 8, Donald W. Oyster, 22, of Wiscasset was issued a summons for driving to endanger, on West Alna Road, Alna, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.
Recent arrests
On September 4, Jason P. McKenney, 39, of Lewiston was arrested for violating condition of release, at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wiscasset, by Lt. Rand Maker, who was assisted by Deputy Brian Collamore.
On September 10, Tanya L. Landry, 39, of Boothbay was arrested for domestic violence assault, on West Side Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.
Recent accidents
On September 6, an accident occurred on Route 194 in Alna involving Christine E. Gardner-Best, 41, of Whitefield. Gardner-Best was operating her 2008 Toyota northbound when a deer ran in front of her vehicle and was struck. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.
On September 7, an accident occurred on Blinn Hill Road in Dresden involving Paul A. Thibodeau, 51, of Dresden. Thibodeau was operating his 2001 Dodge 1500 southbound when he failed to negotiate a corner. This caused his vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole. Deputy Matthew Day was the investigating officer.
On September 9, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Edgecomb involving Damien Austin, 20, of Waldoboro and Margot P. Cheel, 67, of Cohasset, Mass. Austin was operating his 2003 Hyundai Accent southbound on Route 1 in Edgecomb when Cheel, who was operating her 2009 Ford Escape, exited Route 27 directly in Austin’s lane. Austin took evasive action and was able to avoid striking Cheel’s vehicle; however, he struck the guardrail on the right front passenger side. Cheel continued traveling southbound and was subsequently stopped by a Sagadahoc County deputy and ordered to return to the scene. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
On September 9, an accident occurred on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay involving Kristin A. Smith, 23, of Winterport and Robert A. Chesebro, 74, of Portland. Smith was operating her 2008 Hyundai Elantra northbound and preparing to make a left hand turn. Chesebro was following too closely in his 2005 Toyota Sienna and failed to recognize that Smith was slowing down to make a turn. As a result, Chesebro struck Smith’s vehicle in the rear bumper causing damage to both vehicles. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
