Sheriff's report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
On September 30, Sgt. Brendan Kane, while on patrol, came upon some large rocks which were strewn in the driveway of a business in the Newcastle area. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a vehicle had failed to negotiate the turn in the road and struck a rock wall, causing the rocks to fall into the driveway. The vehicle that did this damage then left the scene. Further investigation to follow.
Recent Arrests
On September 25, Christopher Chapman, 43, of Dresden was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear and unlawful possession of scheduled drug, on Perkins Road, Dresden, by Deputy Todd Chilton, who was assisted by Deputy Matthew Day.
On September 28, John B. Stevens, 63, of Wiscasset was arrested on an outstanding Wiscasset District Court warrant for a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, on Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.
On October 1, Derek P. Averill, 37, of Boothbay was arrested for violation of a protection order, on Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, by Sgt. Jason Nein.
Recent Accidents
On September 25, an accident occurred on Timber Lane in Newcastle involving Philip S. Blake, 66, of Union and Yingxiu Zhang, 45, of Nobleboro. Blake was backing up in his 2010 Senato bus and failed to see Zhang’s 2008 Nissan Sentra, which was pulled over to the edge of the driveway, and backed into the rear quarter panel area. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On September 26, an accident occurred on South Clary Road in Jefferson involving Casey O. Palmer, 20, of Edgecomb. Palmer drifted into the soft right hand shoulder and struck a small log and a ledge with his 2001 Toyota Corolla. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On October 1, an accident occurred on Alna Road in Alna involving Ruth E. Gilbert, 62, of Alna and Brian C. Curtis, 29, of Palermo. Gilbert was stopped in her 2006 Honda Element at the Cross Road/Route 218 intersection. Curtis was operating his 2002 GMC Sierra northbound on Route 218 and Gilbert failed to see Curtis approaching and entered the intersection into the path of his vehicle. Curtis attempted to avoid Gilbert’s vehicle by braking and steering left, however, both vehicles collided and Gilbert’s vehicle entered the embankment, struck a rock wall and came to rest. Curtis’ vehicle rotated counter clockwise and came to rest. Sgt. Jason Nein was the investigating officer.
