Sheriff's report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
On December 16, Reserve Deputy Thomas Hoepner took a complaint of criminal mischief in the Boothbay area. The complainant stated that sometime the previous night, someone(s) broke the window out of his work truck, which was parked in his driveway. The value of the damage is approximately $400. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.
On December 16, Reserve Deputy Thomas Hoepner took a complaint of a theft of two kayaks from the Westport Island area. The complainant last saw them approximately two weeks ago. The kayaks are described as an Old Town kayak/two seat/granite color – value: $699, and a Critter kayak/single seat/red color – value $300. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.
Recent Accidents
On December 12, an accident occurred on River Road in Boothbay involving Claudia C. Leighton, 66, of Trevett. Leighton was operating her 2011 Subaru Forester eastbound when a dog ran out in front of her vehicle and struck the front bumper. The dog then ran off. Deputy Kenneth Hatch was the investigating officer.
On December 12, an accident occurred in the parking lot of the Lincoln County Courthouse in Wiscasset involving Bobbie A. Robinson, 52, of Waldoboro and Carol J. Way, 75, of Westport Island. Robinson’s 2004 Dodge Intrepid was parked in the parking lot unoccupied and Way was moving her 2006 Subaru Forester from a parked location when she backed into Robinson’s vehicle. Sgt. Brendan Kane was the investigating officer.
On December 13, an accident occurred on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay involving Arthur E. Reed, 70, of Boothbay and Rafael Diaz, 59, of Nashua, N.H. Reed was operating his 2012 Dodge Ram eastbound and entered Route 27 from the Giles Rubbish Company entrance. Diaz was operating his 2007 Freightliner truck southbound on Route 27. Reed stated that his foot slipped off the brake pedal and as a result, his vehicle entered onto Route 27 and into the path of Diaz’s vehicle. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On December 13, an accident occurred on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay involving Kenneth D. Marston, 57, of Boothbay and Charles D. Lachapelle, 79, of Winthrop. Lachapelle was stopped on Route 27 in his 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, heading southbound, waiting in traffic to make a left turn onto River Road. Marston was also traveling southbound in his 2003 Honda CR-V and failed to stop in time and struck the rear of Lachapelle’s vehicle. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On December 13, an accident occurred on River Road in Boothbay involving Shaundra A. Vanella, 27, of New Harbor. Vanella was operating her 2007 Suzuki northbound when a deer entered the roadway from the east. She attempted to avoid the deer, however, the deer made contact with the front passenger corner of her vehicle. Deputy Matthew Day was the investigating officer.
On December 13, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving James C. Doughty, 53, of Bristol and Todd L. Steffy, 29, of Erie, Pa. Steffy was operating his 2010 Subaru Forester southbound on Route 1 and Doughty, traveling at a high speed in his 1999 Dodge Durango, was also heading southbound and struck the rear of Steffy’s vehicle, before continuing southbound and going off the roadway. Deputy Kenneth Hatch was the investigating officer.
