Singer-songwriter Iris Dement Sept. 1
One of the most celebrated country-folk performers of her day, Iris Dement's pure, evocative vocal style and spare, heartfelt songcraft have won her accolades from both the country and folk worlds. This legendary singer-songwriter will perform at the Opera House in Boothbay Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m.
Writing and performing solo for more than 20 years, Dement often pairs up with fellow musicians, including Steve Earle, Emmy Lou Harris and her Grammy co-winner John Prine.
She is a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and her music has appeared in a number of television shows and films including “Northern Exposure,” “Mr. Lonely,” the Coen Brothers' “True Grit,” “Saved” and “You Can Count on Me.”
Dement’s newest album “Sing the Delta” is due out in October. In addition to performing music from her vast vault of material, she will provide a preview of her new album. Her website is www.irisdement.com.
Born in rural Arkansas, her early influences were drawn from Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Iris Dement is married to fellow musician, Greg Brown.
