St. Giles Church’s Blessing of the Animals Oct. 1
In celebration of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love of all of God's creatures, St. Giles Episcopal Church in Jefferson is holding a special Blessing of the Animals service outside on the church grounds under the pine trees on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
All pets large and small are welcome, regardless of whether their owners are parishioners. The Reverend Ralph Moore will bless each and every animal present, including stuffed animals or a photo of a beloved deceased pet. The photos will be arranged on a special memory table for everyone to view.
If it rains, the blessings will take place inside the church, or at the entrance of the church for large animals such as horses and pet pigs.
Following the service, refreshments will be served for animals of both the human and nonhuman sort.
The service is a way of thanking God for the pets that bring so much happiness into our lives. So do plan to bring your pet and take part in this special occasion.
Attendees are asked to bring canned cat and dog food for the Jefferson Food Pantry, whose distribution center is at St. Giles church.
St. Giles Church is located at 72 Gardiner Road (Route 126) in Jefferson.
