St. Philip’s supper series begins July 17
First in the church’s summer supper series, the goal of which is raising funds for St. Philip’s Steeple Fund, is on Monday, July 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Located at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset, there will be a spaghetti supper. The price for the delicious dinner is up to the attendee, and while the church hopes those taking part will donate substantially, if one does not have generous means, come and take part. Give what one can and have a tasty meal.
In order to honor people’s various dietary needs, as well as regular wheat pasta, there will also be a gluten free alternative. Both plain sauce and the vegetable variety will be available, with meatballs on the side. Tossed salad, French bread—garlic or plain—choice of beverage, and homemade desserts round out the menu.
The St. Philip’s steeple is the oldest and tallest of the Wiscasset skyline. It was designed by eminent 19th century architect, Francis H. Fassett, who also designed the church’s American Gothic rectory. The spire was in danger of crumbling when a matching grant was applied for and awarded by the Maine Community Foundation to stabilize the steeple. The work has been done, but the church is now in the throes of paying its half, hence the supper series.
