Snow and slippery roads are being blamed for two accidents in Edgecomb on Saturday night, Edgecomb Fire Lt. Roland Abbott said. At about 5:30 p.m., a car driven by Ethan Murray of Newcastle was heading northbound on Route 27 when it slid off the road and came to rest at a utility pole at the intersection of Route 27 and Mason Road, one mile in from Route 1.

Abbott said a Northeast Charter & Tour Co. bus from Lewiston, with 33 passengers on board, was heading south toward Route 1 when it swerved to avoid the car and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

None of the passengers were injured, but all were transported to the Edgecomb Fire Department.

Abbott was at the scene. “If the car hadn’t been there resting against the pole the bus would have hit the pole,” he said.

Murray had no injuries, and was still at the scene at 8 p.m. “I saved the bus, and the bus saved me,” Murray said. “Everything worked out as it should have. Nobody was hurt.”

While responders were working to get traffic moving on Route 27, another accident occurred just before 8 p.m. at the corner of Fort and Eddy roads.

Abbott said authorities had planned to re-route traffic to Eddy Road, but had to change that plan when the second accident occurred.
