Two exhibitions at River Arts Gallery
River Arts’ “Artists’ Choice” show, featuring 140 works, opened May 5. Charlotte Davenhill, curator and owner of the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, selected encaustic, sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics, assemblage, and fine crafts submitted by 90 artists from all over Maine.
Local artists selected for the show: John Butke and Mark Reilly - Boothbay; Jack Gilmore, Claire Hancock, Frieda Hanlon, Jean Harris, Hannah Ineson, Jan Kilburn, Madelyn Woodbury and Polly Steadman - Damarisotta; Sally Giddings Smith - East Boothbay; Fran Gay and Helen Warner - Newcastle; Elizabeth Palmer - Nobleboro; Alitha Young - Round Pond; Frances Scannell, West Boothbay Harbor; Virginia Forrest, Pamela Logan - Wiscasset; Betsy Fear - Woolwich.
A fiber and wood exhibition is displayed in the West Gallery showcasing works by fiber artist Cathie Stebbins Peterson and woodworker Kemal Lowenthal. Cathie’s fiber work brings color and texture in the form of woolscapes, weavings, and knitted pieces. Kemal’s functional and graceful woodwork includes benches and kitchenware.
River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 U.S. Route 1 in Damariscotta.
