VentiCordi Chamber Music returns
The Lincoln Theater presents VentiCordi on Wednesday, July 28, at 7 p.m. with a program of live music titled “It Takes Five.”
This eclectic program features Artistic Directors Kathleen McNerney, oboe and Dean Stein, violinist, with guest artists Catherine Hudgins, clarinet, Kallie Sugatski, viola and Anthony D’Amico, double bass.
The program begins with the tango inspired (‘alla Piazolla’) composition, ‘It Takes Two” for English horn and double bass, by Tim Goplerud. It then travels back in time for the charming duet, Prelude, Allegro, Pastorale for clarinet and viola by Rebecca Clarke. Taking inspiration from Prokofiev’s classic Quintet, Torbjorn Helander’s short Allegro Capriccioso is full of ideas that belie its brevity. The program concludes with Prokofiev’s tour de force, Quintet, Op.39. Originally written as a ballet for a roving dance troupe, it was based on circus life and titled Trapeze. Prokofiev reworked the score to create the Op.39 Quintet with a nod to Stravinsky, yet with the tonal colors that make it distinctly Prokofiev.
