Waldo Theatre updates
At The Waldo, we are cautiously and determinedly moving forward with building renovation and programming plans for you, our community. Our goal is to be ready for the day this fall when the theatre can be reopened and we can all gather safely.
Here are some uplifting updates:
Hometown master craftsman, Bill Evans of William Evans Fine Handmade Furniture and Antique Restoration and his team, recently volunteered to restore the theatre’s vintage 1930s lobby doors. And the Davis/McMahon family picked up the doors at Bill’s workshop.
The theater recently received a grant award from the Lincoln County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to assist with the purchase and installation of a projection system at the theatre.
It’s been since the 1990s that films were projected at The Waldo. A digital projection system, along with a new audio system, will allow for Blu-Ray projection for many types of events: movie nights, presentations at educational and community events, streaming, and more.
We will be working with Stone Mountain Sound Systems of South Portland on the installation this summer (pending updated COVID-19 business guidelines), bringing work to our industry and projection and sound capability back to The Waldo.
If you’d like to volunteer and be part of the restoration, send an email to info@thewaldotheatre.org
If you are in a position to support The Waldo and help us open this fall, you can take advantage of COVID-19 changes to the IRS charitable giving tax rules that make it more beneficial for you to support any of your favorite causes!
