An Oscar nominated romcom opens at Lincoln Theater this Friday! “The Worst Person in the World” stars Renate Reinsve, who takes on the role of Julie, a 20-something heroine on a journey to discover who to fall in love with? An instant romcom classic, “The Worst Person in the World” brings a touch of freshness to the genre with hints of Nora Ephron, while adding the elements of a coming-of-age drama and impressing critics and audiences worldwide. We hope you’ll join us and fall in love with the romcom once again on the big screen at The Lincoln.
2022 Oscar Nominated Short Films - For more than 15 years, ShortsTV has proudly brought the Oscar Nominated Short Films to audiences across the globe. This special release features the year’s most spectacular short films and for a limited time is available to watch on the big screen. Each nominee is released in one of three distinct feature-length compilations according to their category of nomination. Live Action (R; 2 hours, 1 minute): “Ala Kachuu — Take and Run,” “The Dress,” “The Long Goodbye,” “On My Mind,” and “Please Hold.” Final screening Wednesday, March 2 at 2 p.m. Animation (R; 1 hour, 37 minutes): “Affairs of the Art,” “Bestia,” “Boxballet,” “Robin Robin,” and “The Windshield Wiper.” Final show times Wednesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, March 3 at 2 p.m.
“The Apartment” - (1960; 2 hours, 5 minutes) - The final film in season 4 of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club. Insurance worker C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) lends his Upper West Side apartment to company bosses to use for extramarital affairs. When his manager Mr. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray) begins using Baxter’s apartment in exchange for promoting him, Baxter is disappointed to learn that Sheldrake’s mistress is Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), the elevator girl at work whom Baxter is interested in himself. Soon Baxter must decide between the girl he loves and the advancement of his career. Film historian Jeannie MacDonald will be joining us for a pre-film presentation and post-film talk-back. “The Worst Person in the World” - (R; 2 hours, 7 minutes, in Norwegian w/English subtitles) - A 2022 Academy Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. “The Worst Person in the World” chronicles four years in the life of Julie, a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is. A quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. A must-see performance from leading actress Renate Reinsve, who took home the prize for Best Actress at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Playing at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5; Sunday, March 6 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, March 9 at 2 and 7 p.m.; Thursday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
The Met Live in HD: “Rigoletto” - with pre-opera talk - (Estimated run time: 3 hours, 10 minutes w/two 30-minute intermissions) - Arguably Verdi’s masterpiece among his many masterworks, this new production of Rigoletto moves back in time from Las Vegas in the 1960s to an Art Deco world of the 1920s. Baritone Quinn Kelsey brings his searing portrayal of the title role to the Met for the first time, starring alongside soprano Rosa Feola as Gilda and tenor Piotr Beczała as the Duke of Mantua, with maestro Daniele Rustioni on the podium. Dr. Morton Archer talk at 11:45 a.m. Following the broadcast there will be a brief “post-opera” discussion for those who wish to stay on. Tickets: $25 adult and $23 member; $5 youth 18 and under. Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival – (Approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes with one 10-minute intermission) - Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust invites you to the 5th annual Wild and Scenic Film Fest on Tour in Damariscotta. The festival format lets you choose whether to tune in virtually from home or watch on the big screen at Lincoln Theater. Enter to win giveaways from Wild & Scenic’s National Partners and from local sponsor Newcastle Publick House. Also, everyone who gets tickets will receive $5 off from local sponsor Rising Tide Co-op.
