This week at the Lincoln Theater
“Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story” - (PG13; 1 hour, 34 minutes) - Live performances and interviews are woven together from the 50th anniversary of The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the signature annual music and cultural event of the city, celebrating the music, food, people, arts & crafts, and culture of all of Louisiana since 1970. The film, shot at the 2019 Fest, features local music heroes joined on 14 stages by some of the biggest names in the music industry, as well as archival documentary footage from the past half century. Final show times: Wednesday, July 6 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Thursday, July 7 at 2 p.m.
“Henry V” - National Theater Live - (R; 3 hours) - Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) plays the title role in Shakespeare’s thrilling study of nationalism, war and the psychology of power. Fresh to the throne, King Henry V launches England into a bloody war with France. When his campaign encounters resistance, this inexperienced new ruler must prove he is fit to guide a country into war. Captured live from the Donmar Warehouse in London, this exciting modern production directed by Max Webster explores what it means to be English and our relationship to Europe, asking: do we ever get the leaders we deserve? There is a strobe warning for this show as ‘Henry V’ contains sequences involving extended flashing or flickering light. Tickets: $15/adults, $13/members, $5 youth. Screening Thursday, July 7 at 7 p.m.
“The Phantom of the Open” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 46 minutes) – This is the heartwarming true story of Maurice Flitcroft (Mark Rylance), a dreamer and unrelenting optimist. This humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness managed to gain entry to the British Open Golf Championship qualifying in 1976, despite never playing a round of golf before. He shot the worst round in Open history and drew the ire of the golfing elite, but became a folk hero in the process and, more important, showed his family the importance of pursuing your dreams. Shows: Friday, July 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 9 at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday, July 10 at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 13 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Thursday, July 14 at 2 p.m.
