WES gets ‘crafty’
Fundraiser planned for teacher’s daughter recovering from stroke
Stucents got crafty at Wiscasset Elementary School recently. Every student has been working to follow the school-wide expectations of being safe, respectful and responsible. When students are caught demonstrating these behaviors, they receive a pom pom to add to a school-wide container and, when the container is full, the whole school celebrates!
This particular celebration included students making crafts with everyday materials. Fifth graders made crowns, little houses and tiny characters with their found objects. Fourth graders used recycled breakfast bags to create a paper chain that stretched across the classroom many times. Also, the school’s daily pledge includes the sentence, “We take care of each other at WES.” To show care for a family close to our hearts, students are gathering pledges for a Readathon taking place on Friday, Feb. 17. All of the students will gather to read for a half hour and to enjoy some other group activities, all to support Angelina Puiia, the daughter of pre-K teacher Samantha Crawford.
Puiia suffered a rare pediatric stroke in June 2022. While she has made tremendous progress, she will still face a long road to recovery when she comes home soon. All pledge money will go to support Puiia’s financial needs. If any person or business would like to sponsor a reader or match the donations gathered by the students, please contact BeckyHallowellatbhallowell@wiscassetschools.org or call 207-882-7767.
