Westport Island adds to virus safeguards
Air filters used up the rest of Westport Island’s $5,000 grant from Center for Tech and Civic Life, deputy municipal agent Gaye Wagner told selectmen Monday night.
Wagner said when the Dec. 31 spending deadline neared and the town had to either overspend a little or “leave money on the table,” First Selectman George Richardson said overspending would probably be better. “So that’s what we did,” buying filters for the air purifier, she said. The board agreed to tap the office supplies account for the $28 the buy ran over.
Among other items grant money has funded are stanchions to separate voting booths from foot traffic; and portable displays for sample ballots. Wagner said the displays could go indoors or out, for people to view while they wait in line.
Also in Monday’s UberConference call, selectmen tapped the office supplies account for $96 in proposed overspending on archival records’ preservation. Wagner said $2,453 was in the budget; that and the other $96 would get the town a second valuation book, Wagner said.
