Westport Island hole mystery solved
Westport Island selectmen said Monday night, a second-story, six-inch hole discovered on the north side of the town office turned out to be for a laundry vent. A part apparently fell from it, exposing the hole, selectmen said in the UberConference call. They said Gary Richardson will install a vent.
“That’s excellent. Good, because (the weather’s) going to blow in there this weekend,” Second Selectman Gerald Bodmer said.
“It probably could have been blowing in there over a year, because I don’t think anyone’s noticed it,” First Selectman George Richardson said of the hole, first discussed Dec. 7.
“Strange,” Bodmer said.
Selectmen approved the final, $1,417 round of makeup payments for a missed part of property owners’ homestead exemptions. The board also agreed the town office will close at noon Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and Jason Kates can run an extension cord from the town office to the Christmas tree at the fire station.
