Winslow named Lincoln County ‘Deputy of the Year’
Three years ago, Deputy Jerold Winslow joined Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Winslow is now a certified drug recognition expert (DRE) and has impressed his peers and supervisors with his work. On July 5, Winslow was named 2022 “Deputy of the Year.”
“He hit the ground running when he started, and has done an outstanding job,” Sheriff Todd Brackett told county commissioners July 5 during a recognition ceremony. “He is a model of what law enforcement should be here, in Lincoln County, and nationwide.” Brackett described a DRE officer as having special training. “He is a dedicated officer,” Brackett said. “Jerold had extensive training in Jacksonville, Florida to determine whether a person was under the influence of a substance other than alcohol.”
In other action, Brackett updated commissioners on the agreement with Boothbay Harbor for additional coverage. The pact expires Sept. 30. Brackett told commissioners the department was “quite busy” providing coverage during Wimdjammer Days and the Fourth of July holiday. “Things are running smoothly as we work with the Boothbay Harbor Police Department to get it through the summer,” he said. “We will be reaching out to the town to discuss future expectations,” he said.
Brackett told commissioners a new sergeant was recently hired to the Boothbay Harbor department. This spring, the department only had a chief and one patrolman.
