Wiscasset FOS Set for Success event this Sunday at WCC
It’s celebration time! Sunday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Wiscasset Community Center (WCC) on Gardiner Road, every Pre-K to grade eight student attending Wiscasset schools, or home-schooled children who would be attending Wiscasset schools, is welcome to come accompanied by an adult to claim their school logo backpack into which they can put their school-requested supplies.
People attending will receive their supplies, but beyond that, children will be able to have lunch, thanks to Healthy Lincoln County’s Bringing Food Home van. The van will also be giving out fresh veggies provided by local farmers.
Everyone happily can experience the touch-a-truck area in front of WCC complete with a fire truck, a police cruiser, the Lincoln County Hambulance, a Wiscasset Speedway race car, and Norm’s Used Cars Monster Truck. Last but not least, there will also be a school bus again manned by Trae Stover for practicing bus etiquette while waiting to go inside.
Inside, after checking in and receiving a backpack and a class’s shopping list of requested items, children are able to sign up for a free haircut, to get their eyes checked, to receive a free Scholastic book – while supplies last, thanks to the Partners in Education group – to look for free clothing care of St. Philip’s Bargain Basement, and to explore the many community groups’ displays. To cap it all off, children can claim an ice pop on their way out.
Wiscasset Feed Our Scholars’ Set For Success (S4S) is grateful to WCC for hosting and giving much support to this event, and is grateful as well to our proud sponsor, Wiscasset Ford. To all the individuals, groups and businesses who have contributed in various ways to make this event open to all regardless of ability to pay, we thank you. Particularly, FOS would like to extend gratitude to the many volunteers, the Partners In Education group, Big Al Cohen, Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce, Ames Supply, and the many individual donors of funds and school supplies.
Set For Success provides to all so that any who struggle to prepare for the start of school need not worry. Parents who would like to contribute can donate at the Feed Our Scholars table to help this initiative continue for years to come. This event is a celebration of the community and of the community’s future in the form of its children.
