Wiscasset man charged twice in two weeks
A Wiscasset man who plead guilty to assault in 2013 has been arrested twice in the last month.
On January 29, Clifton Hannah Jr., 48, of Wiscasset, was charged with tampering with a witness or informant, violating conditions of release, and violating a protective order.
A year ago, Hannah assaulted his then-15-year-old daughter and plead guilty to the charge in June. He was sentenced to three years in jail with all but 107 days suspended. He had already served the 107 days by the time he plead guilty.
The charges come after a Two Bridges Regional Jail guard notified police that Hannah sent a letter to his sister. The letter was confiscated and after investigation it was found that the letter was sent to a witness in a previous case, who Hannah was not allowed to have contact with.
Inside the envelope was a two-page letter addressed to the witness, and on the letter, Hannah allegedly wrote that he knew he would get into trouble for sending it. In the letter, Hannah reportedly wrote to the informant that he wanted her to stop what was going on, to leave him alone and let him live his life. He also reportedly wrote that he wasn't going to do anything to the informant; that if he was going to, he would have done it a long time ago.
For that, Hannah was charged with tampering with a witness or informant, violating condition of release and violation of a protective order.
Hannah had been charged with tampering with a witness two weeks earlier and part of the bail conditions stipulated that he not contact that person and not visit her residence.
On January 16, Hannah allegedly called the same person on the phone. While Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline was charging Hannah with the crime at Two Bridges, Hannah allegedly refused to sign the criminal complaint at first and allegedly became angry. As he was being lead away Hannah reportedly said, “If you didn't have that badge I would punch you in the mouth.”
Although he later reportedly apologized, Hannah was still summonsed for criminal threatening.
Hannah had been arrested a day earlier, January 15, after reportedly lying about where he was living to his probation officer.
