Wiscasset Middle High School class of 2016 Top Scholars
Wiscasset Middle High School is proud to announce that the following members of the class of 2016 have earned the distinction of Top Scholars. These nine seniors each have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Following tradition, the Top Scholars are announced in alphabetical order:
Samantha E. Arsenault: Samantha has been an active and respected member of student government at Wiscasset Middle High School. She has served as treasurer of the class of 2016 all four years, as vice-president and president of Student Council, and she is a member of the National Honor Society. Samantha is a familiar face on the stage at WMHS, performing in numerous plays over the years and winning All-Festival Cast at the One Act Festival for three years. She is also a member of the tennis and math teams. Samantha attended the Chewonki Semester School her junior year. That same year she received the Society of Women Engineers Award.
Samantha will attend Colby College in Waterville, where she will major in biology. She is the daughter of Jason Arsenault and Lisa Arsenault of Alna.
Tyler J. Bailey: Tyler has been a dedicated member of the baseball team and math team for all four years of high school. He is described by one of his teachers as “a young man with numerous talents and considerable self-discipline." Tyler has challenged himself academically in top level math and science classes all four years at WMHS.
Tyler is the son of Jay Bailey of Wiscasset and Mandy Lorom of Jefferson. He will attend the University of Southern Maine, where he will major in mechanical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering.
Brycson P. Grover: Brycson has been a member of the soccer, basketball and baseball teams at WMHS all four years, serving as captain of the baseball team one year and the soccer team two years. He has been selected as a member of the Mountain Valley Conference all star soccer team each year of high school and received numerous Coaches Awards in all sports. Brycson has attended the Building Construction Program at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center in Bath his junior and senior years, receiving the “Student of the Year” award for 2015-16. He was a Top Scholar Sophomore.
Brycson will be entering the workforce as a member of the family-owned and operated Grover Construction Company in Wiscasset. He is the son of Chet and Michelle Grover of Wiscasset.
Colleen A. Hendricks: Colleen serves as president of the National Honor Society. Her volunteer experiences are considerable and include the Maine State Aquarium, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Wolfe Neck Farm, Coastal Cleanup, and the National Breast Cancer Association Walk. Colleen has been an avid basketball and soccer player for all four years of high school. She served as captain of both teams her senior year and plans to play soccer in college. An outdoor enthusiast, Colleen is a member of the Outing Club, was selected as recipient of “Sarah’s Scholarship” for a Chewonki three-week wilderness trip her sophomore year, and attended the Coastal Studies For Girls program in Freeport for a semester in her sophomore year. Colleen received the Saint Michael’s College Book Award her junior year.
Colleen will attend the University of Maine at Machias, where she will major in environmental studies. She is the daughter of Mary and Clifford Hendricks of Wiscasset.
Amanda Johnson: Amanda attended the Keller BLOOM Project at Bigelow Laboratory in Boothbay and has pursued her passion for science in advanced level courses throughout high school. Her extracurricular activities include the track team, cheerleading, cross country, and the Outing Club and she plays the clarinet in the WMHS Band. Amanda has been a member of Student Council and National Honor Society. She received the Top Scholar honor as a sophomore and was awarded the Smith College Book Award her junior year.
Amanda will attend the University of New England to further her studies in the sciences. She is the daughter of Valerie D. Giusani of Wiscasset.
Amanda Marcus: Amanda has an extensive list of volunteer experience through her involvement with Student Council and the Girl Scouts including collecting toys and games for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, caroling in nursing homes and senior centers, and donating many hours to the WGME 13 School Spirit Challenge for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Amanda has served as president and secretary of Student Council during her high school years. Her leadership skills have also extended to the cross country, swim and tennis teams. She is a member of the Drama and Outing Clubs. Amanda received the Elmira College Key Award her junior year.
Amanda is the daughter of Bob and Paula Marcus of Wiscasset. She will attend Husson University in Bangor to major in communications web media.
Kennedy Orr: Kennedy is vice president of the class of 2016 and the National Honor Society. She served as captain of the cheerleading team and has been a member of the tennis team. Kennedy was a Dirigo Girls State delegate and received the Wellesley College Book Award her junior year. She was a Top Scholar her sophomore year of high school. Kennedy has enjoyed tutoring, assisting at a summer preschool program, and working as a teacher helper at the elementary school.
Kennedy will attend Thomas College in Waterville where she will major in communications/marketing. She is the daughter of Mike and Kristy Orr of Wiscasset.
Remy T. Segovia: Remy is president of the class of 2016 and Student Council treasurer. He is described by a teacher as “personable, honest, and has a wicked sense of humor,” and he is known for his ability to brainstorm unique fundraising possibilities. Remy attended school in Miami before joining the student body of WMHS for his junior and senior years.
Remy will attend the University of Maine to major in journalism. He is the son of Ruben and Ivette Segovia of Wiscasset.
Daren H. Wood: A baseball and golf enthusiast, Daren has participated on both teams all of his high school years where he leads by example. He can often be seen in the early hours of the day on the field taking extra batting practice or hitting golf shots. He plans to play baseball in college. Daren is also a dedicated and excellent student, receiving numerous academic awards including the Phi Beta Kappa Achievement Award, the Rensselaer Medal, and the Williams College Book Award his junior year. He attended Dirigo Boys State and has been active in Student Council, the Math Team, and the Outing Club.
Daren is the son of Gregg Wood and Karen Hefler of Wiscasset. He will attend the University of Southern Maine, where he plans to pursue degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering and a master's in business administration.
