Wiscasset Police Department: Dead dog turns out to be deer
Monday, Feb. 29
Officer Benjamin Kolko issued three warnings for speed and one for a stop sign violation, a citation for expired inspection, a warning for inspection, and a citation for speed.
ACO Julie Groleau responded to a call about a dead dog in a dog crate in the water at Mason Station. A closer examination identified the animal as a small deer. A second deer skeleton was nearby. Both had had their heads removed. The Warden Service took over the investigation.
Chief Troy Cline issued two citations for expired inspection.
School Resource Officer Tom Hoepner warned a student at Wiscasset Middle High School about email harassment to a student from Hall-Dale.
Ronald Gonyou, 43, of Wiscasset was arrested for a probation violation.
Tuesday, March 1
Cline issued a citation for inspection.
Cline assisted a citizen who said that his ex-wife threatened to burn his tax papers. The citizen was referred to the Damariscotta Police Department.
Officer Nadean Crossley responded to assist a woman who had locked herself out of her house.
Wednesday, March 2
Crossley performed a welfare check.
Cline issued a warning for speed in a school zone.
Cline investigated a request for a welfare check.
Cline investigated a series of calls in which a woman received messages that she was being investigated for fraud. He contacted the caller and told him to remove her number.
Officer James Read investigated a burglar alarm at the former primary school. When he arrived, there were no intruders, although the alarm had registered an intruder in the computer lab area.
Thursday, March 3
Wiscasset police conducted a drug investigation at Wiscasset Middle High School.
Friday, March 4
Sergeant Alfred Simmons assisted with a disabled vehicle on Bath Road.
Hoepner attempted to reach a parent of a student from the elementary school about a meeting, but could not locate the parent.
Crossley responded to a call from a residence on Hilltop that said a person attempted to sell them items. The resident was concerned that the goal was a later break-in.
Saturday, March 5
Officer Jeffrey Fuller found a wallet and telephoned the owner of the property.
Simmons responded to a call for a vehicle lockout and advised the car owner that the service was only performed in an emergency.
Read advised a youth on a skateboard, dressed in black, to stay out of the road in response to a call concerned about his safety.
Kolko issued a warning for a vehicle defect near Two Bridges Regional Jail, issued a citation for speed and issued two warnings for speed.
Kolko responded to a call about suspicious activity at Wiscasset Middle High School. Two vehicles and a U-Haul were outside the school. It turned out to be students from the drama club clearing out.
Sunday, March 6
Kolko issued four warnings for speed and conducted a sobriety test on Bath Road.
Kolko issued a warning for failure to display plates.
Groleau responded to a complaint of an older dog walking down the street growling. When she arrived, the dog was behind an electric fence.
Hoepner issued three warnings for speed.
