Wiscasset selectmen to hear Newcastle issue tonight
Wiscasset selectmen will hear February 4 about an effort by some Newcastle residents to slow truck traffic in Sheepscot Village.
Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith said she wanted to make Wiscasset selectmen aware of a Newcastle petition because it could potentially result in more trucks going through Wiscasset's downtown.
At a January 14 Newcastle selectmen's meeting, a Newcastle man who circulated the petition expressed concern about the speed of trucks traveling Sheepscot Road. Newcastle selectmen planned to contact local legislators and the Maine Department of Transportation about the matter.
Tuesday's meeting at the municipal building is Smith's last selectmen's meeting before she leaves to become town manager of Kennebunkport.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. with an executive session on economic development, followed by a 6 p.m. budget review workshop and a 6:30 p.m. discussion of the board's goals for the next year. The rest of the agenda gets under way at 7 p.m.
