Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) will hold a workshop on “Non-Traditional Solutions to Gravel Road Problems” on Friday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office, This program will provide homeowners, lake road associations, contractors, and municipal officials with up-to-date gravel road construction and maintenance practices to reduce erosion and improve water quality in our watersheds.

The day-long workshop will begin with two morning sessions: Bill Laflamme, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, will discuss why it is important to maintain gravel roads and how to evaluate the condition of a gravel road. David Rocque, state soil scientist with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, will then describe effective, non-traditional practices to repair roads, some of which are of his own design. In the afternoon, the class will visit two gravel road sites to see in practice what they have learned about in the morning training

A course fee of $45 includes morning coffee break, lunch, snacks, and all materials. Recertification credits are available for Code Enforcement Officers (four contact hours in Land Use) and Certified Contractors (four contact hours).
