‘The World of Monarch Butterflies’ presentation May 20

Cyrene Slegona of Belfast will delight and inform you about monarch butterflies and the mysteries of their North American migration. Slegona, a Maine Master Naturalist, has passionately studied these beautiful butterflies since the age of 12, and has visited their overwintering sites in Mexico over the past two winters. Historical accounts of monarchs covering Maine islands in orange illustrates an important role wild islands have for these butterflies.
Slegona will present historical, current and future research, and will review the life cycle and observed behaviors at each metamorphic stage. Also, learn about best hand-rearing practices and pollinator-friendly garden ideas that can help save these butterflies for future generations.
