Youth Leadership Conference features community organizations
The University of Maine at Augusta Student Government Association will be hosting its annual Leadership Conference, “Exemplary Leadership Through Community Service,” in the Randall Student Center’s Fireside Lounge on Saturday, March 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Geared towards people of all ages, this year’s conference features representatives from Pay It Forward x 1,000,000, The Red Barn Cares Foundation, Time Initiative of Maine, and UMA’s Office of Civic Engagement.
The cost of attending is $15 per person which includes lunch and a 2014 Leadership conference T-shirt. UMA students can attend free of charge. RSVP by contacting UMA Coordinator of Student Life, Rose Pelletier at 207-621-3374 or rosep@maine.edu.
Leadership Conference schedule
Dr. Clint Steele, the founder of Pay it Forward x 1,000,000 and host of Mainely Motivated Radio, has devoted his life to motivating, inspiring and encouraging others to live their best life possible. He will kick off the conference with a talk, “How to lead by Example Through Community Service,” followed by a break.
Laura Benedict, owner of The Red Barn seafood restaurant in Augusta and founder of The Red Barn Cares Foundation will share her story and inspiration to help the local community, which will be followed by lunch.
Stacey Jacobson of Time Initiative of Maine (T.I.M.E), an organization that brings people together to create opportunities to develop and exchange time and skills, will talk about community service through the structure of a time bank and the many opportunities that arise to lead by example.
Then, UMA Coordinator of Civic Engagement, Valerie Marsh will discuss ways to engage the community with the civic process.
Dr. Clint Steele will wrap up the topic with a discussion, “How to be an Effective Leader by Example.”
