How to hook a primitive pictorial rug
Join instructor, author, and rug hooking extraordinaire Susie Stephenson for a five week course in How To Hook A Primitive Pictorial Rug being offered through Central Lincoln County Adult Education.
Come learn how to design and hook your own primitive rug in a pictorial style. Working from a drawing or photo we will design a simple rug. We will experiment with different cuts, color planning, dyeing techniques and different stitches.
Students will learn to hook various elements such as houses, trees, foliage, water and sky, people and animals. Finishing techniques, proddy and fancy stitches will be explored as well as using rovings, handspun wool and other fibers to create the look you want.
Bring visual aids, pictures, or drawings to help you create your rug. Or bring a rug that needs tweaking or a commercial pattern that can be adapted to make it truly your own.
Bring your own hook, frame or hoop, sharp scissors and your ideas. You may also bring all the other necessary materials or Susie will provide linen, rovings, wools and an assortment of different fibers to complete a rug for $50 (payable to teacher).
Class begins Thursday, March 14 and runs through April 11 at Great Salt Bay School in Damariscotta from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee is $45 if you register by March 7 and $50 for all other registrations. So register early and save.
