On Feb. 3, the Lincoln County Historical Association will offer the first of four presentations by local artists and historians in its 2019 Winter Lecture Series. The lectures begin at 1 p.m. on Sundays, Feb. 3, 10 and 24, and March 3, in the Communications (or “911”) Building behind the Lincoln County Court House in Wiscasset. Coffee and homemade pastries will be served. Suggested donation is $5. The full schedule is as follows:

Feb. 3: Restoration painter and videographer Doreen Conboy of Alna will take us on a visual tour of “Early Lincoln County paintwork - Stenciling, Grain Painting, and Murals, and the stories behind them.”

Feb. 10: Michael Dekker, historian, re-enactor, and author of books on the French and Indian Wars in Maine, will speak on “Resistance and Reprisal: The Scots-Irish of Mid-Coast Maine During the French and Indian War.”

Feb. 24: Jane Bianco, associate curator at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, will speak on “Maine and the Index of American Design,” a current exhibit at the Farnsworth. The Index is a pictorial survey of the nation’s crafts and decorative arts.

March 3: Master shipwright Leon Poindexter will speak on John Paul Jones’ first command, the ship Providence, and on restoring its full-scale replica in Wiscasset Harbor this winter.

Feb. 17 and March 10 have been reserved as alternate dates in case any of cancellations due to weather conditions.
